Description:
Tolaini's 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, known as "Vigna Montebello Sette," is a distinguished expression of 100% Sangiovese from the Chianti Classico region in Tuscany, Italy. This wine is crafted from the Montebello number 7 vineyard, where silty soils with a significant presence of stones contribute to its remarkable complexity and structure.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine exhibits a deep ruby hue. The nose is vibrant and layered, with aromas of ripe cherry, tobacco, leather, and subtle hints of licorice and spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied with elegant tannins, harmonized with a core of fruit and balanced by fresh acidity. The finish is long and satisfying, reflecting the true character of Sangiovese and the unique terroir of the Montebello vineyard.
Winemaking Process
The grapes are harvested manually and meticulously sorted twice to ensure optimal quality. Whole berries are placed into stainless steel fermentation tanks and a smaller portion into French oak fermenters. Fermentation lasts 20 days under temperature control, with regular remontage and occasional delestage. After fermentation, a long maceration follows, and malolactic fermentation takes place in large 25-hectolitre oak fermenting casks.
Aging Potential
This vintage is particularly concentrated and structured, with fine tannins and vibrant acidity. While approachable now, it promises further evolution and complexity over the next decade.
Food Pairing
This Chianti Classico Gran Selezione pairs beautifully with roasted meats, aged cheeses, and hearty pasta dishes. Its depth and elegance make it an exceptional companion for elevated dining experiences.
